3. Can a relative request that an inmate be transferred or placed in the DOC Institution closest to their home?
No. The inmate may make this request at the time of his/her initial assignment or annual review. Provided the inmate meets the criteria for the specific institution and if there is space available, the request will be taken under consideration.

4. How does an inmate become eligible to participate in the Home Electronic Monitoring Program?
The Department of Corrections Adult Institutions does not administer Home Electronic Monitoring (HEM). If an inmate wishes to be considered for this program the Sheriff or Regional Jail Administrator must request to have the inmate transferred back to the jail. Home Electronic Monitoring is then administered by the jails.

5. Can an inmate earn good time credits while on Home Electronic Monitoring?
No. An inmate earns no good time credits while participating in the HEM program. While the inmate is on HEM his good time credit earning level will be at the lowest level, earning zero (0) days for each day served.

6. How can an inmate request a copy of his/her Legal update?
A copy of the legal update cannot be requested. A legal update is generated only if a change occurs that may affect the inmate’s time to serve. At this time, the inmate is sent a copy of the new legal update.

7. Why is an inmate not transferred as soon as the institutional housing assignment is made?
Transportation schedules inmate transfers on a priority basis. Inmates with greater security needs, will be scheduled for movement first. Transportation also must take in consideration, bed availability and institutional population management.
