Long Term; Single, multiple, & Life + sentences. No disruptive behavior for at least past 24 months prior to consideration for a transfer to any less-secure facility.

Special Purpose Institution - It is a reception and classification facility. Its role is to intake offenders from the local jails and process them into the Department. It houses inmates classified to multiple levels of security.

Directions From Richmond:

Take U.S. Route 460 East past Disputanta and turn right on State Route 602. Drive 3.4 miles until you reach a stop sign. Turn left onto State Route 625 and drive exactly 1 mile. Turn right and proceed about 1/2 mile (Sussex II will be on the right), then turn left to Sussex I State Prison. Drive about 1/4 mile and you will be in our parking lot.
